It helps students focus, feel better, and show up ready to learn.

Food4Schools

Food4Schools is a student nutrition program supporting schools across Nanaimo and Ladysmith, helping provide barrier-free access to nutritious breakfast, lunch, and snacks.

Each day, Nanaimo Ladysmith School Foundation vans deliver an average of 500 breakfasts and 600 lunches, along with groceries that support school-based meal programs.

Because when students have consistent access to food, they’re better able to focus, participate, and feel part of the school community.

Real impact across our schools.

What Food4Schools makes possible.

Daily meals at school.

Breakfast, lunch, and snack programs are supported so students have consistent access to food throughout the school day.

Fresh meals and groceries.

The program has grown from supplying basic groceries to producing fresh meals in its kitchen, while also providing groceries that enhance school-based programs already in place.

Barrier-free access to food.

Schools are equipped with the food and resources needed to nourish students without barriers, helping create a more inclusive school experience.

A system that supports every school.

A centralized depot allows donated items and bulk food purchases to be sorted, stored, and prepared for delivery to schools across the district.

How support reaches students.

At the heart of the program is the Food4Schools depot, where donated items and bulk food purchases are sorted, stored, and prepared for delivery.

Nanaimo Ladysmith School Foundation works directly with schools across the district to support healthy meals and snacks tailored to students’ needs. Access to meals is managed in school by teachers and youth care workers.

How you can get involved.
Donors & Community

Food4Schools runs on community support.

Donations, whether cash or in-kind, help cover food purchasing and the day-to-day costs of getting meals into schools.

Support can come at any time of year, or through community campaigns and events that bring people together around this work.

Volunteers

There’s always work happening behind the scenes to get food ready for schools.

Volunteers help in the Food4Schools depot and prep kitchen, supporting the day-to-day effort that keeps meals moving out to students.

Students & Parents

Heading Needed here

Meals are provided through schools, where teachers and youth care workers make sure students have access throughout the day.

If support is needed, parents are encouraged to connect directly with their school.
